The "bare tool" (no battery) 15" trimmer is now listed on Home Depot's website although it is "out of stock." I don't see any official information on this forum, so I don't know if it has actually been released. Here is the link: http://www.homedepot.com/p/EGO-15-in-56-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-Brushless-String-Trimmer-Battery-a...

The only problem is that it's $179.99. That's $40 shy of the $219.99 option that includes a battery and charger compared to the other tools where the bare tool price was $100 lower.

Before this, I assumed they would charge $120 and was prepared to pay slightly more (MAYBE $140.) But $180? No thanks. Good try though! There are probably PLENTY of people lined up to buy the bare tool, but most of them are not in the group that is willing to pay that price.

The "early adopters" bought the 15" string trimmer long ago with the battery regardless of whether they needed one. The very price-conscientious group of us known as "early majority" have waited patiently for the bare tool option and certainly will notice this $40 difference.

I suppose it doesn't matter because most of the sales will be the kit with the battery. About 90% of the people buying these products are just walking into Home Depot and buying it on the spot. They, of course, want a battery (and aren't even going to see the battery-less option.)

I'm sure you've done your market research, so you might as well sell the bare tool online-only at $180 for the people that want it badly enough, but I won't be buying it at that price.

We appreciate the pricing feedback and certainly take it very seriously.  Often, new products on Homedepot.com are posted before they are 100% in stock.  You should see these bare tools in stock in the very near future.
